Therapy might seem dreadful to some.
Your name is called while sitting in a lobby waiting for the therapist to come. Then, you take that dreaded long walk to the office.
As you head to the therapist’s office, you think, “Here we go. I am about to open the vault where all my pain and frustration are kept.”
I wonder, “I doubt they will even be able to help me. What will they tell me that I haven’t already told myself.”
Working with me is not like that.
At Thoughtful Solutions, I aim to help you find the tools to restore hope in a happier, healthier future. I understand that when you walk through the door to therapy, you’re probably experiencing multiple thoughts and feelings.
My specialty is providing therapy that meets you where you are. You don’t have to be anyone or anything else other than yourself. I understand the pressure you must be experiencing to seek out a stranger to help you manage your stress, anxiety, trauma, abuse, grief and loss, motivation, self-esteem, confidence, or any other life challenge.
I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. You will get that when we talk.
This is about your unique issues.
My treatment is rooted in honesty, driven by family values and life experiences, and guided by a deep sense of purpose.
I believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to be set free from what keeps them stuck – whether it’s emotional pain, stress, trauma, or life’s unexpected challenges.
With authentic guidance, I help individuals and families discover the tools to empower themselves, heal, and thrive.
Together, we will create a space for growth, the opportunity to realize your potential, and the possibility of joy.
About Derrick Prichard (LCMFT)
Therapy is more than a vocation to me.
I am a licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist with over 20 years of experience in mental health. I often tell people that therapy isn’t what I do, but it is who I am.
I feel lucky that I never had to choose a profession. This is the only work I’ve ever done as an adult, and I experience great joy in seeing people move past the pain that has kept them stuck.
Various experiences have taught me a lot.
I worked in social services early in my career, supporting youth and families in foster care before transitioning to private practice.
Seeking more flexibility in care, I founded my practice, growing it to three locations with over 20 providers. I later returned to my passion for helping vulnerable populations by running a group home for high-needs youth in foster care.
All these experiences help create my perspective that even though we experience pain, it doesn’t have to limit us from breaking free of self-defeating beliefs to achieve happiness.
My approach is to help clients find relief.
Rooted in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I have extensive experience in helping clients navigate depression and anxiety by providing a space where they feel heard, supported, and empowered to build a happier, healthier future. We do this by exploring the origins of the pain you are experiencing and then identifying a plan for a better future.
During my career, I have found that one of the primary factors determining life satisfaction comes from the story we tell ourselves. Words have an immensely powerful meaning and do wonders at creating the reality we experience.
Even though my approach is rooted in CBT, I am flexible and great at integrating other modalities based on individual needs.
Who am I?
I am an easygoing, down-to-earth individual who enjoys people. In the therapy room, I can be as serious or laid-back as you need me to be.
Outside the therapy room, during the season, I can root for my favorite sports teams, ROCK CHALK – GO CHIEFS. During non-sport seasons, I usually try to find my way to a body of water or a hiking trail.
